All The Fine Young Men - NBC

In 1984, NBC aired the documentary, ALL THE FINE YONG MEN. The program revolved around letters home as written by 381st pilot, Harold Henslin. Lt. Henslin was shot down on April 28, 1944, Mission 101.

Some consider this program to be the BEST documentary pertaining to the 8th Air Force. Besides combat footage, it features interviews with Roger Freeman, several crew members of the 381st, including Bill Blackmon, one of the waist gunners on Henslin's crew that fateful day.

Sgt. Bill Blackmon, Major Osce Jones (Co-Pilot), T/Sgt. J.W. Padgett (WG) and S/Sgt. Edward Sell (TG) were able to get out of the plane. However, S/Sgt. Sell had his parachute foul on the horizontal stabilizer and he went down with the plane. Blackmon, Jones and Padgett ended up as P.O.W.s and finished the war that way. Blackmon said he landed on the airport they had just bombed.

The program is run on cable periodically.

The field producer for the program was Harold's niece, Karen Rutledge. Dave Osborne and Paxton Sherwood were tapped for their expertise on the 381st and provided insights and other information related to the production of this program, much of which was filmed in Essex.
